I had be trying to make it to Ramey all year, and finally made it for the last Poker Run of the year. Ramey Volunteer Fire Company puts on 7 poker runs per year, one per month April through October on Sundays. The cost is $15 per rider. Kids can ride, but can’t pull chips unless they pay the full $15 fee.

I regret that I didn’t get out sooner; it’s a great event. The trails are pretty fun and there was plenty of water/mud, which is the part I get a kick out of. Some of the mud holes are really deep, so if there’s nobody in front of you, take it slow the first time through. I normally don’t ride alone, but there’s really no issue doing so at this event, since there are a lot of riders.
There are three checkpoints. At each checkpoint, paying participants get to pull one chip. Blank chips have no value and chips marked with a dollar value pay out at the third and final checkpoint.
They don’t release the riders until 11 AM and all must be back by 5 PM to claim prize money. This is more than enough time to make the loop. There are multiple places with play areas with hill climbs, creeks, and mud holes. I stopped to hang out at the one mud area for a while and still made it back before 3 PM. The next time I go, I’ll be sure to take advantage of those spots.
