Here’s another installment from our Fall 2019 trip to the Hatfield McCoy area. This was our last day of riding (day 4), and we were worried that some of the folks in our group wouldn’t be too happy with the length of the ride. The day was going to be long, with slightly over 100 miles covered since we were staying in Bramwell. We all wanted to ride Warrior, so we decided to take route 52 all the way to Welch to cut down on the beating for some. We ended up doing 114 miles round trip, and about 50 of those were on the road.
We left around 9 AM, hit a large percentage of the trails, had lunch at The Owl in War, and still made it back to Bramwell before dark. We had just ridden Spearhead’s Original Pocahontas the day before, which is tight and slower pace, so the wider trails and faster pace were a nice change. We were able to carry speed most of the day; it was a great time. Warrior was definitely a group favorite.
As I said, we had lunch at The Owl restaurant. There was only one young lady running the show, and she knocked it out of the park. The food was really good. I had a burger and was really surprised how good it was. The girl at the counter suggested the deep fried sub, which my buddy got. It was pretty damn good as well. There’s a small seating area inside. The area was really clean as were the bathrooms. We opted to eat at the picnic tables outside.
